About

PrezWeNeed.com is the work of Mary Meehan, a writer and speaker who is based in Western Maryland. She is a political independent.

Meehan has written widely on politics, with special stress on life-and-death issues. She has spoken at over forty colleges and universities throughout the United States, including Cornell, Georgetown Law, Harvard, Michigan, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale.

She believes citizens should not be passive observers of presidential campaigns. We need not leave everything to party leaders, big donors, and other powers-that-be. Instead, we should take the initiative and say what kind of candidate we want and what a president should do in office.

Born in Washington, D.C., Meehan has lived in Maryland most of her life, including eight years on a farm. She attended U.S. Senate sessions as a hobby in high school, and she is a longtime president-watcher.

After college, she had experience in presidential and congressional campaigns--including research, media work, and fundraising. She wrote several how-to-do-it campaign guides. She also did research and media work for a key constitutional-law case on campaign finance.

She has written for many years on politics and issues of life and death. She also has written about the history and culture of Western Maryland, including the origin of mountain names, quilting, and bluegrass music.

Meehan's work has been published in magazines and journals including Allegany, America, Commonweal, Human Life Review, Inquiry, Mountain Discoveries, The Progressive, Social Justice Review, and Washington Monthly. Her newspaper credits include op-ed pieces for the Baltimore Sun, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Newsday, and Washington Post.

She has contributed chapters to several books, including Consistently Opposing Killing (Praeger, 2008). Many of her articles on life-and-death issues are available at her other website, MeehanReports.com.

She is available to speak on "The President We Need" and the many other topics described in Need a Speaker?
