The President We Need

This website, started during the 2015-16 U.S. presidential campaign, will now include occasional comments in "Prez Blog" about the presidency of Donald Trump. Down the road a way, it will review possibilities for the next presidential election.

More important than any other issue, we believe, is the consistent defense of human life against the threats of war, abortion, the death penalty, and euthanasia. The right to life is the first right mentioned in our Declaration of Independence. It is also the first right in logic because, without life, there are no rights at all. On our Life and Peace page, we give examples of the way a president should defend this right on which all other rights depend.

A president must obey the Constitution--especially its Bill of Rights--and defend it against all attacks. We give specific examples on the Constitution page.

The president should lead a downsizing of the federal government, which has become too authoritarian and far too expensive. The Downsizing page sketches a way to go about this.

We have a monster public debt--now approaching $20 trillion. The debt and the interest on it are a drag on our economy and a real threat to the welfare of coming generations. The "Pay Down the Debt" page offers practical ideas for major debt reduction.

"Prez Quotes" is a section of quotes by and about our presidents. Many had interesting things to say about the presidency and their experience with it. Whether or not we agree with everything they did, we can learn much from the character, the eloquence, and the political skills of our best-remembered presidents. We also can learn from the mistakes of the great, the poor, and the middling ones.

Another website feature, "Good Reads/Good Views," describes useful books and websites about the presidency. Many provide special insights and real depth.

Our "Prez Blog" offers occasional comments on presidential speech and action.

We hope all of this will be helpful to students of the presidency, reporters and pundits, and all who care about our country and its future.
